Halloween-Themed Reese’s Peanut Butter Pie
Anyone else LOVE the Holidays? For me, it starts in October with Halloween. Halloween is hands down one of my favorite holidays and it officially kicks off the holiday season. My go-to dish for all of the gatherings, team events, and family time is this 6 ingredient No-Bake Peanut Butter Pie. It is SO easy to bake and doesn’t require any baking. It is the best dessert option to bring to your next team gathering or just for when you and your teammates want a fun dessert.
Can I Eat Dessert and be a Good Athlete?
As you know, I am all about performance nutrition and utilizing fuel to maximize your play on the field. Food is fuel for the body and without giving it the nutrients it needs, your performance will lack. That being said, I totally believe that enjoying what you eat and having a good time is also important to maximize your performance. Foods should not be labeled as “good” or “bad”.
All foods have their place in a fueling plan. Some foods are good for physical health and performance while others are appropriate for your mental, emotional and social health. It is totally fine to indulge in high quality (and delicious) treats like this – it can keep your mental state in good shape and help you avoid things like cravings. Also how fun is it to share a yummy treat you have made with a teammate or friend?
Using Quality Ingredients
When I make my No-Bake Peanut Butter Pie, I make sure to use the top quality ingredients to maximize the performance benefits and taste. Little swaps in this recipe (and no I don’t mean sugar-free or anything like that), will help increase the quality and have your teammates begging you for more!
Upgrade Your Peanut Butter
The first thing to do is upgrade your peanut butter. There are so many different types of peanut butter in the grocery stores that it seems almost impossible to pick the right one. You are probably familiar with eating Jiff and Skippy peanut butter but there is a better way! As soon as you try natural peanut butter you will never go back! All natural peanut butter has a much nuttier and rich taste that tastes great on whole wheat bread or homemade pancakes. All-natural peanut butter only contains peanuts and salt. You won’t be getting any of the other (potentially harmful) ingredients that aren’t the best for fueling.
All-natural nut-butter is also more appropriate for fueling because it is anti-inflammatory allowing your body to recover faster and not be as stiff/sore/ I highly recommend making the switch to natural nut butter if you haven’t done so already!
One of my favorite peanut butter options is from Trader Joe’s because of the simple ingredients. and the price The all-natural peanut butter there is only $2.19! If you guys don’t live near a Trader Joe’s, there are plenty of options in grocery stores too like Smucker’s Natural, Wegmans Just Peanuts, and Justin’s! Also, making your own peanut butter can be a fun, easy activity and a lower cost than buying natural nut butter.
To find a healthy peanut butter simply look at the ingredients list on the jar. The list should really only contain peanuts and maybe some salt! That’s right, just peanuts and salt! Because of this, natural nut butter tends to separate, with the oil rising to the top. If you are taken aback by the oil, don’t worry! Just stir it into the peanut butter and refrigerate after opening – it helps with separation!

Choose a Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese Spread
When purchasing a cream cheese spread for your no-baked peanut butter pie, check out a cream cheese spread that is 1/2 Greek yogurt and 1/2 cream cheese. This gives your pie an extra dose of protein. Protein is extremely important for muscle building and lean body mass maintenance. The Greek yogurt and cream cheese combo should be available at your grocery store located in the cream cheese area!
Performance Benefits of No-Bake Peanut Butter Pie
Wait… how does a dessert have performance benefits! You probably still think I am going crazy (but if you made it this far, congratulations! You are going to LOVE this pie!).
Yes and no. Focusing on fueling properly to perform your best on the field is extremely important. But if physical health is all you focus on, your mental, emotional and social health can suffer. Incorporating fun foods, like this Peanut Butter Mousse Pie, can be just what you need to support other aspects of your health. Having proper mental and emotional health is important for your self-confidence, motivation, and well-being.
Rich in anti-inflammatory unsaturated fats, peanut butter can lower inflammation and improve post-workout recovery. The fat in the peanut butter also enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. To get these benefits, make sure you choose an all-natural peanut butter that includes only nuts and salt.
A cream cheese spread that’s about 1/2 Greek yogurt can be a good way to make treats a bit appropriate for fueling. It has more protein than just cream cheese alone and can be a good way to make sure you reach your protein needs. Who doesn’t love a protein rich dessert? Additionally, Greek yogurt is a good source of probiotics (hello, good bacteria!), calcium, potassium, and B12.
