Cinnamon Pinwheels

The other day I really wanted cinnamon rolls, but I didn’t have any so I improvised. I used my two ingredient bagel recipe as a base, added cinnamon, sugar and butter to create these tasty “cinnamon pinwheels.” These definitely don’t have the same sweetness level as a cinnamon roll, but if you like an easy cinnamon recipe, this one is perfect.

Cinnamon Pinwheels

Crafted from a simple two-ingredient bagel base, these pinwheels are infused with the warm flavors of cinnamon and sugar. Perfect for a quick and easy cinnamon fix, they’re sure to become a favorite in your household!

Self-Rising Flour: This versatile flour is a key player in creating the light and fluffy texture. Self-rising flour contains a leavening agent, typically baking powder, which helps the dough rise and achieve the desired thickness without the need for additional ingredients.

Plain Greek Yogurt: Adding a creamy richness to the dough, plain Greek yogurt serves as a binding agent. Its acidity helps tenderize the dough while providing a boost of protein.

Butter (Melted): When melted and brushed onto the dough, it creates a base for the cinnamon and sugar.

Ground Cinnamon: Ground cinnamon brings warmth and depth to the pinwheels with its sweet and spicy aroma.

Granulated Sugar: A touch of sweetness is essential to balance the warm notes of cinnamon. Granulated sugar adds just the right amount of sweetness, enhancing its flavor without overwhelming the palate.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour and plain Greek yogurt. Stir until a smooth dough forms, ensuring all ingredients are well incorporated.

Roll Out Dough: Place the dough on the parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into a flat rectangle, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Add Butter: Brush the flattened dough with the melted butter, ensuring it is evenly distributed over the surface.

Sprinkle Cinnamon and Sugar: Sprinkle the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar evenly over the dough, covering the entire surface.

Roll Into Cylinder: Starting from one end of the rectangle, tightly roll the dough into a cylinder shape, creating a spiral pattern as you roll.

Cut Into Pinwheels: Slice the rolled dough into equal-sized pieces, to create individual pinwheels.

Bake to Perfection: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown.

Serve and Enjoy: Once baked to perfection, remove the cinnamon pinwheels from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
