Baked Feta with Honey and Sesame

Three years ago my husband and I were traveling to Boston. On our way there, a local recommended a specific restaurant and told us to get the feta. It was easily one of the best food recommendations I have ever received. Since then, I have been trying to recreate this dish! This baked feta with honey and sesame is the perfect appetizer to take to parties or honestly just snack on at home to make any meal feel luxurious.

This baked feta with honey and sesame has become a staple appetizer for our springtime celebrations, with its fresh flavors and effortless preparation. With just a few basic ingredient, this dish captures the essence of spring. The creamy feta warmed to perfection, pairs perfectly with crackers or bread. Block of Feta Cheese: Select a high-quality block of feta cheese. Look for a firm block that will hold its shape well during baking.

Large Egg, Whisked: Crack open a fresh, large egg and whisk it until smooth and frothy. This will serve as the binding agent for the sesame seed coating.

Toasted Sesame Seeds: Toasting enhances the nutty flavor of the sesame seeds, adding depth and complexity to the final dish.

Honey: To add a hint of sweetness, drizzle the honey generously over the warm baked feta just before serving.


  • Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Ensure that the baking sheet is large enough to accommodate the feta cheese block without overcrowding, allowing for even baking.
  • Set Up Dipping Stations: Create two dipping stations to coat the feta cheese. In the first bowl, whisk the large egg until well beaten. In the second bowl, pour the toasted sesame seeds, spreading them out evenly.
  • Pat Dry the Feta Cheese: Use a clean paper towel to gently pat dry the surface of the feta cheese block, removing any excess moisture.
  • Coat Feta in Whisked Egg and Sesame Seeds: Dip the dried feta cheese block into the whisked egg, ensuring that it is thoroughly coated on all sides. Allow any excess egg to drip off before transferring the egg-coated feta to the bowl of toasted sesame seeds. Roll and press the feta gently into the sesame seeds, ensuring an even and generous coating.
  • Transfer to Baking Sheet and Bake: Carefully transfer the coated feta cheese block onto the prepared baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake feta cheese for approximately 25 minutes.
  • Drizzle with Honey and Serve Warm: Once baked to perfection, remove the sesame-honey baked feta cheese from the oven and transfer it to a serving platter or individual plates. Drizzle the warm feta with honey. Serve the sesame-honey baked feta cheese warm alongside freshly warmed pita bread or your favorite bread. 

Additional Notes

Customize the sesame seed coating by incorporating additional herbs or spices such as dried oregano, thyme, or smoked paprika for added depth.

For a hint of tanginess, consider adding a splash of freshly squeezed lemon juice or a sprinkle of lemon zest over the baked feta cheese just before serving to brighten the flavors.

  • 1 block feta cheese 

  • 1 large egg whisked

  • 1/2 cup toasted sesame seeds

  • 1-2 Tbsp honey


  • Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Set up 2 dipping stations. In the first bowl, whisk the egg. In the second add toasted sesame seeds
  • Dry off feta with clean paper towel 
  • Place feta into the whisked egg and then coat in the toasted sesame seeds
  • Place feta onto the lined tray and put it into the oven for 25 minutes
  • Remove feta from the oven and drizzle with honey
  • Serve with warm pita bread
